Alexander Gehring (born 1981 in Bielefeld/Germany) is a photographer and artist based in Berlin. He studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld and the London College of Communication and graduated in 2011. He works on his own projects and for editorial clients.
His commissioned work focuses on portraiture and still life photography. His personal work, primarily analogue, centres around relations between magic and the photographic image. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries, including the Aperture Gallery, New York and the Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen. In 2016, he was awarded the Merck Prize at Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie.
A special edition of my artistic work is available to buy as classical darkroom hand prints at Visual Thoughts Editions. The photographs can be sold framed or unframed.
